A Raft of Sea Otters

This was our last week in Morro Bay, California, and our last sunset on a beach during the return trip home to Canada. It made perfect sense to me that the primary setting for Pixar’s 2016 film Finding Dory was set in Morro Bay. Dory sets out to find her family. We were doing the same, searching for support from family and friends.

Losing It All In Paradise

Californians have a different perspective about merge lane speeds than we have in Canada. We were cut off a few times because the vehicles merging slowed down instead of speeding up to enter the flow of traffic on the freeway. When you’re 40 feet of truck and trailer, this is disconcerting.

Over 90,000 Steps

We felt we had walked a lot in Napa Valley. Once we settled into The Delta Ocean Pointe Resort in Victoria, BC, we pushed our step count over 90,000 for the week. Walking back and forth between downtown Victoria and our daughter’s apartment 4 kilometres away made the activity add up in a fun way.

Travel Delays

We figured the best deals at the grocery store were the sandwiches expiring that day. We ate lunch and dinner for under $15 total. We did this the last few days in Halifax to stretch our already stretched food budget.

When we came back from Halifax, NS, and stared into our storage unit, everything stacked in front of us was built on decisions we made a year before. For six months after we left Vancouver Island, we thought the items in storage would be for the life we wanted in Northern BC. Then, we decided on the east coast.

End Of The Road

We’ve done this sort of thing before. We went on holiday with no reservations and no plans other than to eat at as many In-N-Out Burger locations as we could (for Jamie’s 50th birthday). We’ve moved to a different province and started over with a new home and new jobs at least four times.
